Wood Dale is a city in DuPage County, Illinois, located about 19 miles west of Chicago's Loop. The city was originally known as Lester's Station, named after one of the early settlers, Frederick E Lester. Lester donated land to build a train depot. The subdivision platted next to the train depot was named Wooddale. When the city was incorporated in 1928, the spelling was changed to Wood Dale to prevent confusion with another town in Illinois. Being so close to O'Hare airport and having expressways and toll roads easily accessible, Wood Dale became a popular area for industrial development. Large companies like Motorola and Mitsubishi built facilities here. In the 2010 census, the population of Wood Dale was 13,770.
